Meet Alicia, NP-C

Welcome, friend! I'm Alicia Pendergrass, Founder of Mary & Elizabeth Maternal Advocacy and Your Maternal Advocate.

When I'm not supporting women in clinical practice, I love to bake, craft, hike, write when I can find the time, and travel with my husband of 16 years and our two children. Our family is also very active in community outreach through our church. My husband says I'm a great storyteller—although he's much less complimentary about my jokes. I happen to think they're pretty funny!

I'm also a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with 17 years of nursing experience — more than a decade of it dedicated specifically to women's health, obstetrics, gynecology, and maternal-fetal medicine. My nursing career began in 2009, starting on a cardiac unit before I moved into a high-risk maternity unit at a Level 3 regional perinatal center and OB/GYN practices. Six years in, I became a Family Nurse Practitioner, and after a season in primary care, I found my way back to the women's health specialty that had always felt like home — obstetrics, gynecology, and maternal-fetal medicine.

Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of caring for women during some of the most exciting, vulnerable, and life-changing seasons of their lives. And over time, I began to recognize something that stayed with me:

Mothers often need more support than the healthcare system has the time or capacity to provide.

That gap can sometimes leave mothers feeling less confident in their care.

That's why I created Mary & Elizabeth Maternal Advocacy.

Our name is inspired by the biblical relationship between Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Elizabeth — a beautiful example of one woman receiving another with love, encouragement, and support during motherhood (Luke 1).

My mission is to help mothers regain trust in themselves and their healthcare providers—to feel heard, understood, informed, and confident in their healthcare. I will be a steady presence during one of the most crucial times in a mother’s transition, providing knowledgeable advocacy, compassionate support, and a trusted voice in her corner.

Every postpartum journey is different.

Whether you're welcoming your first baby or your third, every pregnancy, delivery, recovery, and season of motherhood can bring new questions, emotions, and unexpected challenges. Experience doesn't mean you have to navigate them alone.

As a clinically trained provider, I will listen, help you make sense of what you're experiencing, prepare you for conversations with your healthcare team, and help you advocate for the care and support you need.

Because every birth begins a new postpartum journey, and mothers deserve to be cared for, too.

I would be honored to be part of yours.
